Approach

Through our careful deconstruction of the structural arches, we create a unified lighting installation that celebrates both the structure and the former glory of the Hong Kong film industry.

We hope to recreate the essence of Chungking Express (1994) directed by Wong Kar Wai, by capturing the colors, lighting and blurring effects of the movie into the neon lights in the installation.

We use simple reflections and blurry light refraction to create a fading arch array. The light spills out to the surrounding spaces and corridors around the periphery of the installation. By blending in the two contrasting arrays of colors where warm tones symbolize coziness and cold tones separation, we pay tribute to cinematographer Christopher Doyle.
